Intel Arc graphics driver update adds game support, bugs remain

Intel has released a new beta version of its Arc graphics driver, and the two outlets that covered it do not agree on what it is called. TechPowerUp puts the build at 101.9033 beta and says it brings day-one support for the newly launched game Control Resonant, having tested it on both discrete cards and handhelds with integrated graphics, Intel’s included. Guru3D describes what it presents as the same release as build 32.0.101.8993, adding “Game On” support for a game called WARDOGS across the Arc A-series and B-series lineup and on Core Ultra processors with integrated Arc graphics. Nothing in either report explains the gap between 8993 and 9033.

What’s new in this Intel Arc graphics driver

Beyond the day-one game support, this is a beta rather than a WHQL-certified release, so Intel is prioritising getting new titles running over closing out the bug list. That trade-off shows in what didn’t change: the driver still carries a set of known issues held over from earlier releases, none of which were resolved in this build.

Known issues carried over from earlier builds

  • Mafia: The Old Country continues to crash on systems running Intel’s “Panther Lake” platform.
  • Arena Breakout Infinite can still crash on both Arc “Battlemage” and Arc “Alchemist” cards.

Intel has flagged both for a fix in the next WHQL driver rather than this beta. We covered Microsoft’s rollout of Automatic Super Resolution to Panther Lake earlier this month; this driver is a reminder that the platform’s graphics stack still has open compatibility problems that sit outside that feature entirely.

Two reports, one driver, two build numbers

By our arithmetic, the two pieces of coverage landed within 40 minutes of each other, which is the pattern of a coordinated release rather than two outlets independently stumbling on the same download page. That makes the mismatch harder to wave away as one of them describing an older release: both are writing about what Intel presented as a single driver push, they just disagree on the build number and on which game gets the day-one billing. Guru3D’s framing leans on the download and the driver number itself; TechPowerUp’s leans on the beta status and the new game support. Read together, they describe a release Intel has not fully documented in public yet.

What to watch: the next WHQL driver is where Intel says the Panther Lake and Battlemage/Alchemist crashes actually get fixed, and it should also settle which build number is correct.
