The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has failed JerryRigEverything’s bend test for the fourth year running, cracking along both antenna lines in the same spot where its three predecessors gave way. Zack Nelson’s channel runs every foldable through the same gauntlet: a scratch test, an open flame held to the display, a pour of sand and grit over the hinge, and finally the bend test that decides most foldables’ fate. This year’s Pixel Fold got further than some expected, without the outright break that hit last year’s model during the same segment, but it still failed the same way every Pixel Fold has.
- Scratch tests across the cover glass and folding panel
- An open flame held directly to the display
- Sand and grit poured over the hinge and body
- A bend test applied to both halves of the folded chassis
Pixel 11 Pro Fold breaks in the same spot again
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold split along both antenna lines under the bend test, the identical failure point GSMArena notes on every Pixel Fold generation Zack has bent since the line launched. Four generations in, the crack keeps starting in the same place, which points to a repeated structural choice in the hinge and chassis rather than a one-off manufacturing fault. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8, tested on the same channel two weeks earlier, is noticeably thinner overall and held up against the identical procedure, which undercuts any argument that the Pixel’s extra thickness buys it structural headroom.
A durability claim that doesn’t match the Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s test result
Notebookcheck’s coverage carries a detail the others don’t: Google markets this generation as three times more durable than earlier Pixel Folds, a figure that comes from Google, not from JerryRigEverything’s test rig. The bend test result doesn’t square with it. The phone failed at the same point as before, which suggests whatever change sits behind that marketing figure didn’t reach the part of the phone that actually gives way. Nelson’s conclusion, as Notebookcheck reports, is blunt: “Google can’t be bothered with hardware and hasn’t learned anything about proper foldable design in four years.”
The standard Pixel 11 Pro, whose telephoto sensor got a quiet upgrade this generation, doesn’t carry any of this risk since it has no hinge to fail. The Fold’s problem sits specifically in the crease where the antenna lines run, and it has sat there since the first Pixel Fold.
