A physical PS5 copy of Silent Hill: Townfall leaked online days before Konami’s official launch, exposing footage that showed how the game balances combat against investigation. The Silent Hill Townfall leak began with disc footage circulating from an early copy, then widened on 20 September when a 20-part, roughly 14-hour walkthrough appeared on Bilibili, four days ahead of the game’s 24 September release on PS5 and PC.

Early viewers who sat through the leaked playthrough reported frequent puzzles paired with weak in-game guidance, and said the story outshone the combat, according to Notebookcheck’s account of the Bilibili leak.

What the Silent Hill Townfall leak revealed

The earlier disc leak captured how Screen Burn, the Observation developer building the game for Konami, split time between fighting monsters and piecing together clues in the game’s Scottish setting. Konami used Tokyo Game Show to show off some of the same new mechanics itself, effectively confirming footage that had already reached the public through unofficial channels.

Silent Hill: Townfall puts players in the shoes of Simon Ordell on an isolated Scottish island, walking into the old town of St Amelia to solve puzzles, fight monsters and work out what has happened there. It launched on PlayStation 5 and PC on 24 September 2026, priced at $50 (£45), with Konami publishing Screen Burn’s take on a series it began pushing into new directions with last year’s Silent Hill f.

How the reviews compare to the leak

Full reviews landed close to launch and told a more divided story than the leak suggested. Eurogamer called Townfall ‘a game of bold creative swings’ that inverts, subverts and evolves the survival horror formula while still feeling entirely Silent Hill, putting it in the same company as 2025’s Silent Hill f. Polygon was less convinced, opening its review by noting the game is ‘genuinely scary, then gets really dull’, while praising the series’ habit of building monsters around heavier themes: unforgivable crimes, abusive childhoods, systemic misogyny.

Rock Paper Shotgun landed in between, describing an ‘often inspired, if slightly lumbering trek into the fog’ and dwelling on Konami’s now-established habit of handing the Silent Hill name to outside studios to explore their own local settings, a project it called both inspired and ‘vampiric’. Polygon’s separate review roundup summed up the critical mood: Townfall broadens the series with new locations and gameplay styles, but ‘can’t match the stellar reviews’ that greeted Silent Hill f last year.

The leak beat the reviews to press

By our arithmetic, teqpost calculates that Notebookcheck’s first leak report reached readers roughly 33.1 hours before Polygon published its review roundup, meaning the ‘story over combat’ verdict from leak viewers was public well over a day before critics weighed in with a more mixed picture. The leak audience got an upbeat framing; the reviews that followed complicated it, with Polygon and Rock Paper Shotgun both flagging pacing and a drop-off in tension that no amount of story strength papers over.

What to watch next

Silent Hill: Townfall is out now on PS5 and PC, so the leak itself is moot, but the gap between leaked impressions and critical consensus is worth remembering next time a disc surfaces early. Worth watching is whether Konami tightens the puzzle guidance that both leak viewers and Polygon flagged, and whether the mid-game slowdown reviewers describe gets addressed in a post-launch patch.
