GSMArena has added an iPhone Duo 3D model to its database, alongside 3D models of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, built with modelling partner Binkies3D. The models let anyone rotate, zoom and, in the Duo’s case, fold and unfold the phone on screen before Apple’s retail stores have physical demo units to hand round.
What the iPhone Duo 3D model shows
The Duo model mirrors the hardware’s actual behaviour. A button placed under the zoom control opens and closes the device, so you can compare its folded thickness against the unfolded profile without guessing from renders. Tapping either colour name swaps the finish shown on screen, which is the only way most people will see both paint jobs side by side before launch. Apple is not expected to have Duo units on shop floors for hands-on browsing before pre-orders open in mid-October, so the model is standing in for the in-store demo unit that would normally do this job.
The 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max models work differently: they rotate and zoom like GSMArena’s standard phone entries, without the open-close function, because neither of those phones has a hinge to move.
Pre-order wait times split sharply by colour and storage
Separately, analyst Jeff Pu has been tracking pre-order wait times for the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, and the numbers point to uneven demand rather than a clean sellout. The 256GB and 512GB models, which are the most commonly ordered configurations, are showing three to four week waits across most colours. The pricier 1TB and 2TB tiers tell a different story: Silver ships immediately, Black and Glacier need one to two weeks, and Burgundy runs three to four weeks.
Pu reads that spread as a sign that Burgundy is by far the most requested of the new finishes, while Silver is the one buyers are leaving on the shelf. The figures come from wait times listed on Apple’s own ordering pages rather than a modelled forecast, which is about as close to independent demand data as anyone gets before Apple reports actual sales.
What’s changed since our last report
We covered the run-up to this on 14 September, when an iPhone Duo price poll landed alongside word that 18 Pro pre-orders were slipping to October. That piece was built on pricing rumours and a delay report; what we have now is measurable. The Duo’s mid-October pre-order window has held, and the 18 Pro line has moved from will-pre-orders-slip speculation to producing real queue-length data by colour and storage tier. The wait-time split also gives an early read on which of the new finishes Apple under-ordered.
The practical takeaway for anyone still deciding when to order: Burgundy buyers on the entry-level capacities look set to wait longest, while Silver buyers on the higher-capacity tiers can already check out the same day.
What to watch next
Two things are worth tracking: whether Apple gets any Duo demo units into stores before mid-October pre-orders begin, and whether Burgundy wait times on the 18 Pro Max shorten as Apple works through the backlog Pu’s data points to.
