Samsung launches Galaxy Buds On, its first clip-on earbuds

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Buds On, its first clip-on earbuds under the Galaxy Buds name, quietly folding the debut into the US launch of the Galaxy Tab S12 series and SmartTag 3 rather than giving it its own announcement.

What’s inside the Galaxy Buds On

The Buds On swap the sealed, in-ear fit of Samsung’s existing Buds lineup for an open-ear, clip-on shape that hooks over the ear instead of wedging into the canal. The two terms outlets have used for that design, open-ear and clip-on, describe the same thing from different angles: clip-on is how the earbud attaches, open-ear is the result, a canal left uncovered so the earbud’s audio and the surrounding sound mix in the air rather than inside a seal.

That lack of a seal is also why Samsung built in Audio Leakage Reduction and automatic volume control, features meant to keep the buds’ own audio from spilling out and to compensate when ambient noise rises, jobs that an in-ear seal would otherwise do passively.

Driving the audio is a TwinBoost speaker system running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform, Samsung’s answer to getting usable volume and bass out of a design with nothing sealing it to the ear. Samsung rates the buds for up to 9.5 hours of playback, a figure from Samsung’s own listing rather than an independent battery test.

On the software side, the Buds On carry the same Galaxy AI features Samsung has been pushing across its 2026 hardware: access to Gemini Live, Quick Voice Memo for capturing audio notes without reaching for the phone, and head gestures for accepting or dismissing calls and notifications with a nod or a shake instead of a tap. Gemini Live lets the wearer start a spoken conversation with Google’s assistant directly from the earbuds, the same hooks Samsung has wired into its phones and tablets this year.

A launch with no fanfare

Samsung did not give the Buds On a dedicated unveiling. They surfaced alongside hardware Samsung was actively promoting, the Tab S12 series and SmartTag 3, with none of the usual pre-briefing or embargoed hands-on coverage that accompanies a flagship audio launch.

By our arithmetic, the first report landed 15.8 hours ahead of the last among the four outlets that covered the launch, a spread consistent with outlets stumbling on a quiet product page one by one rather than working from a coordinated briefing with a shared embargo time. That pattern, burying a new accessory inside a bigger hardware event, is becoming familiar for Samsung’s smaller audio and wearable releases, which increasingly arrive as a line in a press kit rather than a launch of their own.

Price, release date and what’s next

The Galaxy Buds On go on sale in South Korea on 27 October at 299,000 won, with Samsung confirming a global rollout will follow without giving a date or pricing for other markets.

The open question is when and for how much the Galaxy Buds On reach markets outside South Korea. Samsung has not attached a date to the global rollout, and the US event that carried the Tab S12 and SmartTag 3 announcements did not mention the earbuds at all, so a formal Western release is the detail worth tracking next.
