EA has confirmed that leaked footage from EA Motive’s long-quiet Iron Man game is genuine, ending days of speculation after an unauthorised trailer surfaced online on Friday. The Iron Man game leak runs roughly two and a half minutes, mixing cutscenes with in-game flight and combat pulled from a work-in-progress build.

EA broke its silence through the official Marvel’s Iron Man X account, posting for the first time since the profile was created in 2023 and confirming the clip was pulled from an internal build watermarked “AUG26 TEST”, as TechPowerUp reported. The statement read: “Well, that didn’t go as planned. But now you know, and we’ve got a lot more to show you. See you when we’re ready.”

What the leaked footage shows

The footage shows Tony Stark flying through a city, battling enemies on the ground and in midair, before arriving at what looks like a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier drifting through the sky. Descriptions of the setting vary: some viewers place the sequence over New York, others read it as Chicago, and EA hasn’t clarified either way. The build is visibly unfinished, with low-resolution textures and cutscenes that cut off mid-scene, but the flight model and combat carry more polish than the surrounding assets suggest for something this far from release.

How the coverage diverged

This is where teqpost’s own numbers add something worth noting. VGC was first to report EA’s confirmation, publishing 14.2 hours ahead of TechPowerUp, by our arithmetic. VGC’s report leaned on words like confirms, real and leaked, treating the tweet as a straightforward confirmation. Eurogamer’s version leaned on admitting and breaks its silence, framing the identical tweet as EA owning up under pressure rather than volunteering the news. Same statement, two different stories, and neither is wrong: EA didn’t choose to reveal the game this way, but it also didn’t fight the leak once it was out.

It’s a reminder that even when the underlying fact set is identical, the language an outlet chooses shapes how confrontational the story reads.

Why EA confirmed instead of pulling it

EA’s choice to confirm the leak rather than chase it with takedown notices breaks from the industry’s default response to an unauthorised leak: silence, followed by copyright takedown notices, the same route Rockstar has taken with its own leaks. Confirming it costs EA control over the reveal, but it also means the footage stays up rather than scattering into re-uploads that are harder to track and easier to misrepresent. It’s a bet that owning the moment beats losing the narrative to screen recordings and reposts.

The game itself has stayed almost entirely under wraps since it was first announced, with EA Motive giving no release window, no platform list and no firm date for a proper reveal. The leaked build’s rough edges, unfinished cutscenes and placeholder textures make clear this isn’t close to a launch-ready product, but the flight and combat systems shown are further along than the surrounding visuals. For now, EA has only committed to “a lot more to show you” when the team is ready, without saying when that will be.
