Geoff Keighley hosted Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 from Cologne on 25 August, opening Gamescom week with two hours of world premieres, developer interviews and gameplay trailers. The showcase covered anticipated titles including Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Gears of War: E-Day and Metro 2039, before CD Projekt Red closed the night with two Witcher 3 announcements.
What Gamescom Opening Night Live announced
4A Games used its slot to show a two-minute, entirely in-engine gameplay trailer for Metro 2039, titled "Renegade". It goes deeper into the game’s new voiced protagonist, The Stranger, and was introduced on stage by executive producer Jon Bloch and co-creative director Pavel Ulmer. Metro 2039 launches in February 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Saber Interactive and Universal showed a new story trailer for Turok: Origins, casting players as part of the mystical Order of the Turok, guardians who wield immense power in a war for survival against ferocious dinosaurs and a new alien threat called the Xenia. The story is set in the Lost Lands, where humanity faces extinction and the Order must fight to preserve what remains. Archetype Entertainment, meanwhile, finally attached a release date to EXODUS: 7 April 2027, arriving on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Its new trailer centres on Salt, an Awakened octopus mercenary who joins protagonist Jun’s party and brings her own combat abilities.
The Witcher 3 gets a free remaster and a new expansion
CD Projekt Red’s segment was a double header. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , Remastered arrives 29 September as a free upgrade for every existing owner, overhauling visuals, combat, traversal, mount handling and monster behaviour, reworking the skill tree, and adding transmogrification and an expanded photo mode. It’s also coming to Switch 2 and Battle.net for the first time.
Alongside it came the first trailer for Songs of the Past, the expansion due almost 12 years after Wild Hunt’s original release. According to PC Gamer’s coverage of the reveal, it’s set in a new region called Letten rather than the previously rumoured Velen, and introduces a chain whip as a weapon type new to the series.
Coverage of that expansion’s timing doesn’t agree. Eurogamer and KitGuru both reported that CD Projekt Red gave no firm release date on stage, while other outlets’ write-ups filed Songs of the Past as arriving "next year." Until CD Projekt Red confirms a date itself, treat that as unverified.
Not everything from Gamescom week ran through Keighley’s stage. teqpost separately covered Ubisoft’s reveal of the turn-based Rainbow Six Tactics, due in 2027, which sat entirely outside Opening Night Live’s line-up, underlining how much ground Gamescom week covers beyond the flagship show.
